Great Expressions Dental Centers - Southfield-Lahser

Had to find a new location since the Telegraph location closed. My experience wasn’t terrible but it could have been better. I loved that I got to see the same dental hygienist from the Telegraph location, she was great, as well as the Dentist. I arrived a couple minutes before my appointment and still had to wait almost 30 min to be seen. The office itself seemed very busy and somewhat congested. The office layout was off, to me. You had to squeeze past people in order to check out. I might look into changing to a different location, this one didn’t give me the best vibes.

I really enjoyed my experience with my dental hygienist Jonnie! As someone who has some anxiety surrounding the dentist, she was extremely comforting and reassuring. I’ll be sure to ask for her when I come back. I also like how thorough and prompt the receptionists are.

I visited Great Expressions two weeks ago for a filling next to a tooth that previously had a root canal and had never caused me any pain. During the procedure, material was placed on root canal to "protect" the tooth. Within a few days, I began experiencing severe pain on the root canal. I returned to the office and informed Dr. Patel, as the tooth had been completely pain-free before the visit. I was then told the tooth is now requires retreatment. The root canal had already cost me $2,000. I was referred to an endodontist, but the provider I was given was out of my insurance network, so I had to find one on my own. Thankfully, I was able to locate an in-network endodontist. After taking X-rays, the specialist informed me that the root canal had been left open and now requires retreatment. I am currently in significant pain and having difficulty eating. Based on my experience, I strongly recommend seeking a second opinion before proceeding with treatment here or anywhere. However, I absolute love the staff. They made me feel welcome. So sad to write this review. But I wouldn’t want anyone to experience this 🥺.

Our visit yesterday with the pediatric team was amazing! Not only are they professional but also extremely patient with smaller children, I highly recommend anyone who has a little one who’s fairly new to the dentist to schedule here. Shout out to the hygienist Sam and Dr. Shamo.

Bad experience, I had a routine fitting for a cap on my tooth and while they were drilling the temporary cap the dentist slipped and drilled two holes under my tongue (see pics). I cannot eat, drink or talk without considerable pain. He did not disclose his error in full detail, and when I called the office to let them know about the mishap and the pain I was in, the receptionist tried to argue with me. If you are having anything more than a cleaning done, I would seriously consider looking elsewhere. I have to come back to get the permanent cap put in and I’m seriously nervous. When I asked to speak to someone in customer services I was told to send an email… I would think they would be more considerate especially because their error injured me (again see pics)

Dr. Basam Shamo was truly incredible with my daughter. From the moment he walked in, he spoke to her with such kindness and patience, and made a situation that could have been scary feel calm and safe for her. He took the time to distract her from the "scary stuff," explained things in a gentle, kid-friendly way, and constantly checked in to make sure she was comfortable. As a parent, watching how thoughtfully he cared for her immediately put me at ease and helped ease my own anxiety as well. We drive about 40 minutes to get to this office, and it is absolutely worth it. We have one more appointment to complete her dental work, and after that we will continue making the drive for her regular cleanings and checkups. I’m beyond grateful to have found a dentist who is not only skilled, but genuinely compassionate. Also, The ladies at the front desk were welcoming, patient, and helpful, and the dental assistant that worked aside the doctor with my daughter was just as kind. Everyone we interacted with made this experience a positive one for both of us.

I've been going to this dentist for a few years now. My 5 year daughter is currently going as well. This entire dentist office is awesome! Everyone is friendly, nice and professional. My daughter appointment today went smoothly. The doctor and dental assistants were amazing. The office is clean. They perform great work. I love this dentist office. Everyone keep up the great work!
