This office came highly recommend recommended by our family friends who had an excellent experience and outcome for their child. We booked a consultation appointment to discuss options for our child’s retracted lower jaw. The office staff were courteous and it is clear that the Orthodontist in this practice have significant experience and excellent training. The lower review reflects our interaction with Dr. Cohen. He was thorough but we found his attitude condescending. He did not think the Herbst appliance would be worthwhile for our child and, when I asked to understand why, I was met with a curt "years of experience". We were not necessarily pushing for any specific action or outcome but came to this highly regarded group to better understand our options. I respect Dr. Cohen’s professional opinion. However, the manner it was delivered flew below my standard for professional communication.

🌟Exceptional Orthodontic Care🌟 We’re so thankful we found Dr. Joy and the team at Cohen Orthodontics in San Jose. When my son first had consultations, two different orthodontists told us he would need 6 to 8 teeth pulled, including molars. That felt extreme, but we didn’t know we had another option. Our pediatric dentist referred us to Dr. Joy, and she did the most thorough evaluation. Her approach was clear: do everything possible to save his teeth. In the end, my son only needed to have his four wisdom teeth removed (they were impacted), and after nearly two years of treatment, all of his molars and teeth were saved. The results have been incredible, and we are so grateful she didn’t take the "easy route" of pulling teeth just to speed things up. We drive an hour each way every two months, and it has been 100% worth it. As a family with multiple kids in orthodontic treatment, we’ve seen the difference. My oldest daughter had six teeth pulled elsewhere, and now I realize that wasn’t necessary. Dr. Joy’s philosophy of preserving natural teeth has made such a positive impact, and we highly recommend her and the Cohen team to any family. We will soon begin our youngest for her treatment at Cohen with Dr Joy.

This review should have been written at the very beginning but I especially want to share it now that everything is finally complete because Dr. Cohen truly did a great job. My child orthodontic process was unique, as it should have been finished in 2– 3 years. but due to out state school schedule, it stretched into more than five years. During this long journey, Dr. Cohen was always patient, flexible with any reschedule, and supportive in making all treatment progressed smoothly. The results speak for themselves, my child now have a beautiful smile and healthy teeth. Thanks to Dr. Cohen’s expertise and care. we are truly grateful for Dr. Cohen's dedication and highly recommend him to anyone seeking orthodontic treatment.

I couldn’t be happier with my experience at Phelps and Cohen Orthodontics! The orthodontists and associate orthodontists I worked with were incredibly thorough in diagnosing and treating my orthodontic needs. I initially sought treatment to address sleep apnea, neck tension, and malocclusion caused by a narrow upper palate. After reviewing my treatment options, we decided on a bone-borne palatal expander, followed by braces. I recently got my braces off, and I’m very pleased with the results! My upper palate has widened significantly, and I’ve noticed major improvements in both my breathing and speech. My overall treatment spanned from December 2022 to November 2024, and the team at Phelps and Cohen supported me every step of the way. A huge shout-out to the dental assistants for their exceptional skill, patience, and kindness! They always made me feel comfortable and at ease during each visit.
